Monique Vanden Heuvel, DVMDr. Vanden Heuvel ("Dr. V") joined the Silver Spring Animal Wellness Center team in June 2016. She grew up in Onalaska, WI where her desire to work with animals was ignited. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, she was commissioned as a captain in the US Army in June 2005.

Dr. V and her husband, Collin Vanden Heuvel, were stationed in California where she served three years at Naval Air Station Lemoore as the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the veterinary hospital on base. While leading and training a troop of soldiers, her main focus was to ensure the health and deployability of Military Working Dogs (MWDs) to Iraq and Afghanistan during war.

Having two children while serving in the US Army, Dr. V elected to be honorably discharged and joined the small animal practice team at Care Veterinary Clinic in California. She specialized in soft tissue surgery, dental care, ultrasound, and preventive medicine for seven years. During their 11 years in California, they were able to explore the west coast and add two more children to the bunch. Realizing the importance of family and having the desire to move back home, they made the decision to move cross country to Wisconsin.

Dr. V is thrilled to be able to learn and practice integrative medicine here at Silver Spring Animal Wellness Center. She and her husband along with their four little children, a feline and canine friend, currently reside in Port Washington and thoroughly enjoy the charm this town has to offer. Dr. V's favorite activities include hanging out on the beach, traveling with family, long distance running, listening to live music and enjoying a glass of red wine.
